Letter from Block 5:
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Here at Block Five, We are honored to be a part of the Worcester community, and
are committed to it’s continued growth and prosperity. We would like to utilize our
resources to create a memorable event for the city that will also allow us to give
support to some local organizations that are a vital part of our community and
beyond, every day of the year.
June 24, 2007, will mark the date for the first annual B5K. In collaboration with the
City of Worcester and the WPD, a 5K road race starting and finishing at Block Five
has been established. The street area surrounding Block Five will be roped off as
well to allow us to host our fist ever outdoor “Block Party”. There will be food and
beverages, beer and wine, live entertainment, raffles and prizes, children's activities
and more.
Because of its current prevalence in our community and beyond, and because it has
affected so many of us in so many ways, we have chosen to contribute to the fight
against cancer with the proceeds from the B5K. This year’s event will be held in the
memory of Barbara Jean Gray, the mother of one of our valued Block Five employees,
and a victim of pancreatic cancer. 50% of the proceeds raised on June 24th will be
donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Alliance in Barbara’s name. The remaining 50%
will be donated to Worcester's own Hope Lodge, an organization that provides free
housing and medical transportation services to cancer patients and their families.
We applaud both of these organizations for the work that they do, and are honored
to be able to contribute our support.
We are looking for the support of citizens and business in the Worcester community
to facilitate and maximize the success of the B5K. We believe that in working
together, we can accomplish wonderful things. It is our goal, through donations of
time, money and supplies, to contribute 100% of the money raised directly to the
fight against cancer. Please consider offering your support in any way that you can.
